Wealth is neither praised nor blamed in itself; its blame belongs to the manner of its earning and its spending. The Companions ﷺ were among the wealthiest of merchants and the most ascetic of worshippers — there is no contradiction. The danger of riba is not that it produces wealth but that it produces wealth without the discipline of effort, the risk of partnership, and the proximity of need. Wealth without these proximities corrupts the soul that holds it.
