On the prohibition of conventional banking interest

Sh. Muhammad ibn ʿUthaymīn (d. 2001)

What this source says

The interest charged or paid by conventional banks is riba al-nasīʾa in its purest contemporary form. There is no scholarly opening to permit it for the buyer of a home or the holder of a savings account. The classical conditions for ḍarūra do not apply to the purchase of a residence when rented housing is available, even if rented housing is less desirable. The Sunnah does not require us to accept inconvenience as ḍarūra.
